What is Waacking?
Disco, emotions, glitter, musicality, freedom and love.
Waacking is a dance style that originated in the 1970s at American disco clubs in Los Angeles, which brought together a community of queer African Americans, Latinos, and all those who belonged to minorities at the time. They were inspired by the stars of the silver screen (Greta Garbo, Fred Astaire, or Marilyn Monroe). Posing, dynamic hand movements (waack), walking, drama, groove, dazzling outfit and most importantly - the dancer's personality. From undergound disco clubs, this dance gradually evolved into the form as we know it today. In addition to 70 disco tracks, Waack's dancers often dance to modern to experimental music and also dance in dance. This jewel of the golden disco era of the 70's is full of emotions, like its very history. It almost disappeared in the 80's and it was not until 2005 that Tyrone Proctor started teaching it again. An American dance legend, a prominent figure on the cult music show Soul Train, and the father of the world's first waacking house, the Imperial House Of Waacking (I.H.O.W.). Tyron has managed to establish dozens of I.H.O.W. branches around the world, and I have the honor of being part of a Czech family. Title I.H.O.W. The Czech chapter gives me the power and credibility to spread waacking in its pure form and to develop and move it further towards those who want to find themselves in waacking.
What does the class look like?
Waacking classes are open to complete beginners as well as more advanced dancers. The dress code "dress your best - whatever it means" applies to the lesson. Do you feel like a sensual Diva today? An ethereal woman? Sports Spice? Especially be it, in all its beauty. I'd love to take heels, but if you're in the mood for sneakers, that's fine. During my lessons, you can look forward to so-called soul steps, or party steps, waack drills, lines, poses, history, musicality, walking, floor performance, working with emotions, in short ties that you will be able to really dance. We will try the individual elements for as long as necessary, and when you give it as a queen, freestyle awaits you. My lessons are characterized by a dynamic, spontaneous expression, where the dancers try a lot of new things. I alchemically combine acting with dance and thus often lead my students to their own authenticity. Waacking is not just a dance, it is a lifestyle. In addition to charming feminine movements, you will also find self-confidence, insight and you will be so happy that you will never want to dance anything else!
